Claude connector
The tickStat connector lets you build and edit your surveys from Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant, by describing what you need in plain language or by handing it a document with your questionnaire. Claude acts on your behalf, with your own tickStat account: it only sees and changes the surveys you could open in the admin panel.
The connector is a design tool. It creates the survey structure; you review it, complete it and run the fieldwork in the admin panel as usual.
16.1 What you can do from Claude¶
- Surveys: list your surveys, create a new one (always in Programming status) and change its name, description, objective and language.
- Questions: add, edit and delete questions, one by one or many at once, and reorder them. Supported types: single choice (radio, with default, dropdown), multiple choice, open text, short text, text separator / introduction, smiley scale, date, money, ranking, Top N ranking, importance scale, MaxDiff (Best-Worst), heat map, hierarchical configurator, matrix and multiple discrete choice.
- Matrix questions: columns with their own response type (radio, checkbox, numeric, text, time, dropdown) and one row per item.
- Discrete choice experiments: create the choice question with its alternatives, attributes and levels, and upload your experimental design (one block per alternative). The choice cards are generated automatically from the design.
- Text separators: introductions and section texts are formatted with the same styles the respondent frontend uses (titles, lists, tables, callouts).
- Steps: distribute the questions into steps (pages), and for simple surveys create the linear flow so respondents go through the steps in order.
16.2 Connecting Claude to tickStat¶
You need a tickStat account with the investigador or administrador role.
In the Claude app (web or desktop):
- Go to Customize > Connectors and select Add custom connector.
- Enter a name (for example tickStat) and this URL:
https://app.tickstat.com/surveys-mcp/mcp - If Claude asks how to identify itself (OAuth client), choose Register automatically. Leave the client ID and secret empty.
- Select Connect. The tickStat sign-in page opens: enter your tickStat username (or email) and password and select Sign in and allow.
- In a conversation, open the + menu, select Connectors and make sure the tickStat connector is on.
On Team and Enterprise plans an Owner adds the connector for the organization and each member then connects with their own tickStat account.
In Claude Code: add a server of type http with the same URL to your MCP configuration, run /mcp, select the server and choose Authenticate. Keep that dialog open until the browser shows Authentication successful.
16.3 Signing in and permissions¶
- Your password stays in tickStat. You type it only on the tickStat sign-in page. Claude never receives it; it receives a token that identifies you.
- Claude works as you. It can read and modify the surveys you own and the ones shared with you (see 2.5 Survey Sharing Between Investigators). A request about any other survey is rejected.
- Pipeline locks apply. A survey that cannot be edited at its current stage of the Experiment Pipeline cannot be modified from Claude either.
- Failed attempts. After five wrong passwords the sign-in for that user is blocked for 15 minutes.
- Session length. The connection is renewed automatically while you keep using it. After 30 days without use you are asked to sign in again.
Claude asks for your confirmation before running each action. Read those prompts: some actions replace or delete content (see 16.5).
16.4 Building a survey from a document¶
The most common use is turning a questionnaire you already have (PDF, Word, a draft pasted into the chat) into a tickStat survey:
- Attach the document to the conversation and ask Claude to create the survey from it, for example: "Create a tickStat survey called 'Forest management 2026' from this questionnaire."
- Claude creates the survey, adds the questions in order and formats the introductions. Batteries of items that share the same scale are created as a single matrix question.
- For a discrete choice experiment, give Claude the design as you would paste it in the admin panel: one column per alternative and attribute and one row per choice card. Also tell it the names of the alternatives, the text of each attribute and what each level means; otherwise the cards show the codes of the design.
- Ask Claude to organise the questions into steps. For a survey without skip logic, ask it to create the linear flow as well.
- Open the survey in the admin panel, preview it and correct whatever is needed.
Tips:
- Say explicitly which questions are mandatory.
- Ask Claude to list the questions or the steps at any time to check what has been created.
- Changes made from Claude and changes made in the admin panel affect the same survey. If you have the survey open in the panel while Claude modifies it, reload it before saving.
16.5 What is done in the admin panel¶
The connector does not cover everything. These tasks are still done in the admin panel:
- Flow rules with conditions (skip logic, branching, conditions configured through scripts). From Claude you can only create the linear flow. Define conditional rules in 2.4 Survey Structure.
- Filters, quotas and exclusions.
- Survey configuration beyond name, description, objective and language (style, quality control, redirects, translations).
- Images: heat map images and zones, multimedia, images in answers.
- Other question types not listed in 16.1 (Q methodology, IAT, AHP, simple choice, game theory experiments, among others).
- Fieldwork, reporting and analysis.
Three actions replace existing content and deserve attention:
- Setting the steps replaces all the steps of the survey and deletes all its flow rules, including conditional ones defined in the panel. Claude checks the current rules first and asks for confirmation when there are conditional rules.
- Creating the linear flow is refused when the survey already has conditional rules, so skip logic is never overwritten.
- Updating the options of a question replaces all its options; adding options keeps the existing ones.
Always preview a survey built with Claude before sending it to the pilot.
16.6 Disconnecting¶
To stop Claude from accessing your account, remove the tickStat connector in Customize > Connectors (or turn it off for a single conversation from the + menu). If you need the access revoked on the tickStat side, for instance after losing a device, contact tickStat.
