Exclusions

This feature is available from the Edit menu and is designed to prevent a respondent who has already participated in one survey from accessing other related surveys in the same study. Because exclusion logic depends on the nature of the experiment, contact your platform administrator to enable it.

On the Exclusions screen you simply select the source surveys (a searchable dropdown; the currently selected surveys are also listed as chips so the active filter is visible at a glance): a respondent who already took part in any of them is blocked from the current one. The respondent is identified by the participant id (pid) that the panel passes in the entry URL — the same id used across the study's surveys — so no survey question is needed to capture it. A respondent is excluded when their pid already reached a participating state (completed, started, screened out or quality-terminated) in any of the selected surveys. The check runs at entry, before the first screen is shown, and blocked respondents leave through the survey's Early Screen Out exit (the panel receives the screen-out outcome, and the respondent is recorded as Early Screen Out in the survey statistics). Respondents who enter without a pid (e.g. a direct, non-panel link) are never excluded, since there is nothing to cross-check.

In multi-panel studies — where respondents come from several different research panels — there is no single unique respondent identifier shared across all panels. For cross-panel exclusion, combine this feature with Cross-Panel Deduplication (see Section 8.2), which uses browser fingerprinting to detect the same device across panels.
